Man, this makes Jason Reitman’s “Juno” look like the old folks home. Anime News Network has word that Akira Saso’s 2004 manga “Kodomo no Kodomo (Child’s Child)” is currently being adapted into a live-action film by director Hiroharu Hagiuda.
“Kodomo no Kodomo” tells the story of 11 year-old Haruna (played by newcomer Haruna Amari), a little girl with a very (very) grown up problem. After a day in the park with Hiroyuki, Haruna’s 5th grade classmate, something strange starts to happen to her, and once she sits through a sex education class she puts two and two together and realizes that she’s pregnant.
Now, I have two questions about this that I want to run past everyone: a) Is it even possible for an 11 year-old to get pregnant? And b) Am I the only one who finds this whole idea extremely disturbing?
“Kodomo no Kodomo” is slated to hit Japanese theatres at the end of September.

The film is complete. Press screenings started earlier this month.
Possible for an 11 year old to have a baby? Yes, as long as the menstral cycle has started. I had a friend start hers in fifth grade, when she was 10. And the youngest proven pregnancy was with a 5 year old girl. She lived through the birth and had a baby boy.
