Poster and trailer for Kitano’s “Achilles and the Tortoise” online

by Chris MaGee

I have to send an email over to Kevin Ouellette over at Nippon Cinema thanking him for making my day… and everyone else’s day too. He’s just scored the poster (above) AND the trailer for Takeshi Kitano’s upcoming film “Achilles and the Tortoise”!

As we’d previously reported “Achilles and the Tortoise” tells the story of an unsuccessful painter, who despite his inability to sell any work continues to slog away in the artistic trenches. Of course Kitano stars as the painter, Kanako Higuchi as his supportive wife and Kumiko Aso and Kitano veteran Yurei Yanagi play a younger version of the couple.

After the mind boggling mix-ups that were “Takeshis’” and “Glory to the Filmmaker!” it looks like “Achilles and the Tortoise” may be a return to form for Kitano, or at least a return to films like “Hana-Bi” and “Kiujiro” that prominently featured Kitano’s paintings.

Head on over to Nippon Cinema to catch all the Kitano goodness!

Cool...It looks great and I agree it's always nice to see Kitano bring his paintings into his films.

I'm still not convinced that this won't be another deconstruction exercise for Kitano though. Especially with the artist angle.

I'd be perfectly happy either way.
