Only six more sleeps to one of the biggest genre film festivals in North America, Montreal’s Fantasia Fest, and now the excitement can really start to build as Mitch Davis and crew have announced the full line-up for this year’s film extravaganza. This is especially important for us Japanese film fanatics because Fantasia has been one of the places to catch brand new films from Japan, and this year is no different. From films that have become cult hits through touring the festival circuit this year like Nobuo Iguchi’s “The Machine Girl”, Takashi Miike’s “Sukiyaki Western Django” and Yoshihiro Nishimura’s “Tokyo Gore Police” to lesser known films like Yudai Yamaguchi’s latest “Akanbo Shôjo”, Tak Sakaguchi’s “Be a Man! Samurai School” and Kenta Fukasaku’s “X-Cross” AND the only Canadian stop by some of the films from the “No Borders, No Limits: Nikkatsu Action Cinema” touring fest and you have yourself a real smorgasbord.
