Over the weekend the news broke that Mamoru Oshii's seminal 1995 cyber-punk anime masterpiece "Ghost in the Shell" was going to get a digital remastering and new Dolby 6.1 surround sound for a run in Japanese theatres starting July 12th. Now information about this new "version 2.0" re-release of the futuristic techno-police thriller is popping up all over the internet.
Anime News Network has the word on the new voice talent being brought in, as well as which cities in Japan will get to see this revamped version and both Anime News Network and Twitch have links to a streaming teaser trailer for the re-release as well as comparison screen caps from the original print and the new digital print.
So, looks like this is going to start the buzz going not only for Oshii's new film "The Sky Crawlers" that opens this summer, but also will re-introduce the world to a film that Dreamworks is planning on doing a 3-D live action remake of. No word yet if "Ghost in the Shell: Version 2.0" will be seeing a North American theatrical or DVD release yet.
