Itadakimasu, Totoro-sama… Kampai!

by Chris MaGee

Just a couple of days ago there was news of a ryokan designed by Hayao Miyazaki himself and now Ghibli World is running a story about a bakery in Tokyo that is officially sanctioned by Studio Ghibli. You heard me right, folks… Next time you find yourself in the Japanese capitol with some hungry little ones check out Shirohige no shou cream kobo and grab a couple of their patented Totoro-shaped cream puffs! Best get there early, though. Apparently they only make 100 puffs a day and they sell like hot cakes (very bad pun, sorry…)

And afterwards why don’t you treat the kids to a tall, frosty glass of beer?! Wait… Beer? For kids???? Yup! Japanese company Sangaria has been marketing de-alcoholized beer for the young’uns simply called Kodomo no Nomimono (Children’s drink) so they won’t feel left out when they see Dad teetering through the front door after a night out drinking with his office co-workers. I mean, what kid doesn’t want to be just like Daddy when they grow up?

Is it just me, or is this disturbing….? Check out the commercial and judge for yourself:
