Another distributor closes its doors

by Chris MaGee

Sad news from DVD distributor Xploited Cinema via Twitchfilm.net today. It looks like to company will slowly be their operations shifting down with an eye to closing their doors in the near future. In a statement posted on their website Xploited Cinema president Tony Simonelli says that “it's time to slow down, rest and shift gears to new endeavors” after having distributed an extensive catalogue of region 1 and region 2 cult, horror, exploitation, and most importantly for The Pow-Wow, Asian DVDs since the early part of the decade. The company will be honouring all its standing orders, but they just won’t be replenishing their stock, so a firm closure date is difficult to estimate.

Of course it’s sad news coming on the heels of Tartan USA and UK shutting down, but again we tend to forget that things like Japanese cinema is a very narrow niche market and that in the same way that us fans do what we do out of love for the films that the distributors do the same thing, but it’s hard to run a business on love. R.I.P. Xploited…
