Great news today for Japanese film lovers in Spain care of Jason Gray. He posted news about what sounds like a phenomenal programme coming up at this year’s 56th Annual San Sebastián International Film Festival titles “Japan in Black: Japanese Film Noir”. From September 18th to 27th festival goers will not only get to see well known noir and crime films like Akira Kurosawa’s “Stray Dog” and “High and Low”, Seijun Suzuki’s “Youth of the Beast” and Kinji Fukasaku’s “Graveyard of Honour”, but they’ll also get a chance to see some truly under appreciated classics like Masahiro Shinoda’s “Pale Flower”, Rokuro Mochizuki’s “Onibi: The Fire Within” and Yoshitaro Nomura’s “Zero Focus”, one of my favorite noir films of all time.
For full details on “Japan in Black” head over to the San Sebastián Film Festival site here and while you’re at it check your bank accounts to see if you can afford to fly your favorite Japanese film blogger over to Spain this September. Um… that would be me, not Jason Gray, although he’s great too.
