Shochiku goes live with their own YouTube channel

by Chris MaGee

Here’s another story care of the newly resuscitated Ryuganji.net: Shochiku Studios has stepped into the fray of illegal trailer and content posting by opening their own YouTube channel. So far they only have trailers for four films posted; “GeGeGe no Kitaro and the Millennium Curse”, the cute animal flick “Pandaful”, Jackie Chan and Jet Li’s “Forbidden Kingdom” and Richard Attenborough’s 2007 film “Closing the Ring”, but seeing that Shochiku is getting more and more web savvy with the studio streaming classics films on its Japanese site since earlier this year I think we can expect more trailers and hopefully some exclusive content soon.

This is a smart move all around because although relations between Japanese copyright holders and YouTube have never been convivial the rights holders have failed to realize just how much free promotion they can get from fans and blogs like this one if they make these trailers and clips available to the public. Bravo Shochiku!
