If You’re Happy, Clap Your Hands – Fukutaro Sato (2009)
Independent director and former chef Fukutaro Sato tells the story of a depressed man who asks a young girl to kidnap him so he can escape his dreary existence. Soon the man is living in a cardboard box by a river depending on the girl for food and daily visits.
Hiruko the Goblin – Shinya Tsukamoto (1990)
For his 4th film “Tetsuo: The Ironman” helmer Shinya Tsukamoto applied his frenetic camera work and surreal sensibilities to Shochiku’s director-for-hire horror movie “Hiruko the Goblin”. Starring Naoto Takenaka and Kenji Sawada it tells the tale of a school that’s been built on top of the gateway to hell and the demons who are beheading its students.
