New York Asian Film Festival announces first films from this year's line-up

by Chris MaGee

Here's some news that Asian film fans have been waiting for for awhile now. The folks at Subway Cinema have announced the first films in the line-up of this year's New York Asian Film Festival, which will run in the Big Apple from June 19th to July 5th, and it looks like us J-Film folks already have a lot to be excited about. Of the 21 films announced almost half are from Japan! Here's the breakdown: Yukihiko Tsutsumi's "20th Century Boys 1 & 2", Ryosuke Hashiguchi's "All Around Us", Junji Sakamoto's "Children of the Dark", Masato Harada's "Climber's High", Kanji Nakajima's "The Clone Returns to the Homeland", Shimako Sato's "K-20: Legend of the Mask", Sion Sono's "Love Exposure", Minoru Kawasaki's "Monster X Strikes Back: Attack the G8 Summit", Kiyotaka Taguchi's "Gehara: The Long-Haired Giant Monster", and Yukio Ninagawa's "Snakes and Earrings".

Man, my fingers got tired just typing all those! For me personally the two there that I'm most pumped to see are " The Clone Returns to the Homeland" and "Snakes and Earrings" because if you haven't noticed already I'm a pain-in-the-ass art house film kind of guy.

That won't be the end of the line-up though... far from it. Subway Cinema's website says that we should expect another 10 to 20 films to be added plus an army of special guests. Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!!!
