Fujiwara and Matsuyama together again in upcoming gambling adventure "Kaiji"

by Chris MaGee

In July we told you about how Tasuya Fujiwara was going to be reuniting with his "Death Note" co-star Ken'ichi Matsuyama for yet another live-action manga adaptation, namely Toya Sato's take on Nobuyuki Fukumoto's "Ultimate Survivor Kaiji". In it Fujiwara plays the titular compulsive gambler who, in a desperate move to wipe out his debts, agrees to board a gambling cruise boat for a high stakes game of mah jong against a bunch of other pro-gamblers. The only problem is that Kaiji doesn't know just how high stakes, and deadly, this game will become. Along for this boat ride is Matsuyama who stars as one of Kaiji's friends/ competitors Sahara, and now Cinematoday.jp has given us our first glimpse of the two stars together again on screen, but there are even more stills from the film, due out in Japanese theatres this fall, here, plus Kevin Ouellette at Nippon Cinema has got the full theatrical trailer for "Kaiji" posted here. This looks a hell of a lot more trouble than PartyPoker.net....
