Last year I was lucky enough to chat with director Ryuichi Honda about working with Go-Go Yubari herself, Chiaki Kuriyama, on his swinging 60's Group Sounds comedy "GS Wonderland". The 25-year-old starlet didn't actually get to do any singing for her role as a female keyboardist masquerading as a man in a 60's rock band named "The Tightsmen", but now Kuriyama will be doing some of her own singing for "Mobile Suit Gundam".
On February 24th Kuriyama will be releasing her singing debut, the single "Meteor no Namida", which will be featured as the theme song for the upcoming "Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn" OVA, or straight-to-DVD, series. The actress will be using her own name on the project but with some wacky upper/ lowercase spelling - CHiAKi KURiYAMA.
Fans of Kuriyama and the animated Gundam series will be able to purchase the single in three different formats: a standard CD single, a limited CD+DVD edition, and a deluxe "Gundam edition". The "Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn" series itself will be hitting Japanese retailers in March.
Thanks to Tokyograph for this bit of news... and you know we'll be searching for "Meteor no Namida" to share with you all.

Who did her singing in "GS Wonderland"? At times it sounded like Shiina Ringo, but I dunno.
Hmmm... That's a good question... One I didn't ask Honda. Doh!
