Japanese Femmes Fatales Featured at New York’s Japan Society

by Marc Saint-Cyr

It seems only fitting that, in the wake of our list of Top Ten Cinematic Bad Girls, there comes news of a similarly themed program hitting New York’s Japan Society from March 31st onwards. Entitled “Mad, Bad…& Dangerous to Know: Three Untamed Beauties,” it will be focusing on actresses Ayako Wakao, Mariko Okada and the one-and-only Meiko Kaji, whose Sasori from the “Female Convict Scorpion” series made the number one spot on our list. Among the films being showcased are Yasuzo Masumura’s “Tattoo” (AKA “The Spider Tattoo), Kiju Yoshida’s “Impasse” (AKA “Flame and Women and Flame of Feeling”), “The Affair” and “Woman of the Lake,” Shunya Ito’s “Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion” and Toshiya Fujita’s “Lady Snowblood: Blizzard from the Netherworld.”

Check out the main site and screening schedule for the program here. Thanks to Outcast Cinema for the heads-up on this.
