Tokyograph is reporting that Arashi member Sho Sakurai and starlet Aoi Miyazaki will be starring opposite each other in an upcoming medical tear-jerker. Based on the novel by real-life doctor Sosuke Natsukawa "Kamisama no Karute" tells the story of a doctor living in Nagano whose life and outlook on his medical practice is transformed after he cares for an elderly woman suffering from terminal cancer. Sakurai, most recently featured in Takashi Miike's "Yatterman" will star as the doctor while Miyazaki, best known for her roles in "Eureka" and "Nana", will be protraying Sakurai's photographer wife. Yoshihiro Fukagawa, the man behind 2007's "Peeping Tom" and "An Encyclopedia of Unconventional Women" will be helming "Kamisama no Karute" and (surprise, surprise) Noriko Goto, the screenwriter for Yoshihiro Nakamura's "Gloious Team Batista" will be handling the writing duties. Guess mainstream Japanese movie audiences can't get enough medical dramas, especially their weepy, melodramatic ones.
"Kamisama no Karute" is due out in Japanese theatres in 2011.
