Finally! Four Koji Wakamatsu films get released with English subtitles

by Chris MaGee

Last August we reported on how French DVD distributor Blaq Out/ Dissedenz was going to be releasing 14 films by pink film pioneer Koji Wakamatsu in a series of box sets. At that point the word was that these box sets would not feature English subtitles. Japanese film fans in North America grumbled, but there's no need to grumble anymore!

According to Wildgrounds the second Blaq Out/ Dissedenz box set of Wakamatsu's classic films will feature English subs! The four films in this set will be 1969's "Season of Terror" and "Running in Madness, Dying in Love", 1970's "Sex Jack", and 1972's "Ecstasy of the Angels" (above). North American fans of Wakamatsu have had to put up with a sub-par DVD release of that last film which actually had two reels sequenced out of order! The set, Coffret Koji Wakamatsu, Vol. 2, will also feature special features and video introductions by Gaspar Noé, André S. Labarthe, Danielle Arbid and Jean-Pierre Bouyxou. Unfortunately these extras won't be subtitled, but who cares when we'll finally get English subtitled releases of these revolutionary films?

Coffret Koji Wakamatsu, Vol. 2 is due to be released in France on July 6th.
