Indie animator Hiroyasu Ishida returns with new short film "rain town"

by Chris MaGee

It was in November of 2009 that we introduced you to 21-year-old indie animator Hiroyasu Ishida and his jaw-droppingly accomplished short film "Fumiko's Confession". All of us here at the Pow-Wow were immensely impressed by the film, so it was with great happiness that we saw this progress report on Ishida posted over at Anime News Network this week.

Instead of being a one hit animation wonder Ishida has continued working away on his craft. Now 23 he's spent the past couple years studying animation at the Animation Department at Kyoto Seika University and is readying his latest production, titled "rain town" for a screening to be held at the Kyoto International Manga Museum later in February.

"rain town" is the story of a little girl and what appears to be a robot friend exploring the streets of a rainy city. The short was a collaboration between Ishida and his Kyoto Seika classmate Shogo Yoshida. "rain town" has lready garnered quite a bit of attention. It is one of six films nominated for Best Animated Short at the 5th TOHO Cinemas Student Film Festival.
