The Japan Times is featuring a round table discussion on Takashi Koizumi’s new film "Ashita e no Yuigon (Best Wishes for Tomorrow)" with Reiji Yoshida, Philip Brasor, Roger Pulvers and Mark Schilling. Koizumi’s film tell the true story of the post-war trial of Lt. Gen. Tasuku Okada who was tried as a war criminal for his part in the beheading of 38 captured American airman.
There have been a number of films released in Japan in the past few years (The Men of the Yamato, For Those We Love) that at best have been somewhat nostalgic of Japan’s wartime experience and at worst a swing back to militarism and nationalism. With this in mind this discussion is an interesting read.
