Cast announced for Yaguchi’s “Happy Flight”

Fans of Shinobu Yaguchi’s feel good, underdog films like “Water Boys” and “Swing Girls” will be happy to hear that the cast for his upcoming film “Happy Flight” has been announced.

It is currently filming with Seiichi Tanabe as a co-pilot in training, Saburo Tokito as his stern instructor and Haruka Ayase as a ditsy flight attendant who get involved in emergencies both small and large on a flight from Japan to Honolulu.

The real stars of the film, though, will be the over 500 staff members of All Nippon Airways (ANA) who are involved in the production of the film. Despite the fact that film will deal with a near miss disaster the airline has been exceedingly accommodating helping Yaguchi make “Happy Flight’s” onboard scenes as real as possible. ANA has donated to use of a Boeing 747 so that filming can take place in onboard from flights between Tokyo and Osaka.

I guess we haven’t seen this kind of corporate involvement in a film since Robert Zemeckis made the big budget commercial for FedEx, “Castaway”.
