Japanese queer cinema showcased at Torino GLBT

Ryuganji.net has news that this year’s Torino GLBT Film Festival will be running a special programme on queer cinema in Japan since 1960 entitled “J-ender: Big Bang Love in Japan”. Obviously Takashi Miike’s gay love story/ prison film “Big Bang Love Juvenile A” is going to be featured, but it doesn’t end there. Other gay, lesbian, and transgender themed films to be showcased include Oki Hiroyuki’s pinku eiga “I Like You, I Like You Very Much”, Matsumoto Toshio’s “Funeral Parade of Roses”, Yasuzo Masumura’s “Manji”. The programme will include some other films that you may not scream “queer” at first, but if you think about it fit quite nicely in with the fest, ie: Kon Ichikawa’s “An Actor’s Revenge” and Takashi Ishii’s “Gonin”. All I have to say is thank god there's no mention of Hard Gay!

The Torino GLBT Film Festival runs from April 17th to the 25th.
