Tsukiji Fish Market comes to the big screen

I recently had coffee with a friend who is planning a trip to Japan in the next couple months and she said that one of her first stops was going to be Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. The largest fish market in the world, Tsukiji’s history dates back to the time of the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate and the opening of Japan in the 1870’s. Almost 2,000 tons of seafood are shipped, packed, bought and sold through Tsukiji daily!

Well, soon those of us can’t just up and go to visit Tsukiji will now have the chance to see the market in all its hustle and bustle courtesy of Shochiku and director Shingo Matsubara when “Tsukiji Fish Market Third Generation” opens later this year.

Takao Osawa stars as Shuntaro, a former banker who inherits a fish stall in the famous market. Based on the manga “Tsukiji Uogashi Sandaime” the film was partially shot in around Tsukiji early in the morning in order not to disrupt the trade.

Kaiju Shakedown has posted a link to not one, but four trailers for “Tsukiji Fish Market”, so head on over for a look: http://www.varietyasiaonline.com/kaijushakedown/TRAILER-ROUND-UP
