When I heard that Minoru Kawasaki was going to be making a semi-sequel to the terrible kaiju movie “The X from Outer Space” I was happy, but now that I’ve had a chance to see the full trailer that’s been posted over at Nippon Cinema I’m ecstatic! It really does look like the director of such (intentionally) laughably bad films as “The Calamari Wrestler” and “Executive Koala” has stayed faithful to 1967 original’s roots while adding some truly hilarious looking world leader lookalikes (but who’s playing Stephen Harper???). On top of that we have cameos by actor/ writer/ artist Lily Franky, cartoonist and pop culture guru Jun Miura, “The Siberian Express” director Haruo Mizuno as well as some enticing little hints of Takeshi Kitano who stars as Takemajin, the ancient saviour of Japan and Guilala’s arch rubber-suited enemy. I can’t wait for this one to come out!
Thanks to Kevin Ouellette of Nippon Cinema for filling in the cameo blanks in the trailer!
