Director of “The Booth” to bring a “Fish Story” to the screen

by Chris MaGee

Word from Tokyograph today that Yoshihiro Nakamura who’s best known in North America for having directed the minor J-Horror film “The Booth”, as well as helming this year’s hospital drama “The Glorious Team Batista” is going to be bringing the book “Fish Story” by popular author Kotaro Isaka to the big screen. Isaka is known for his use of parody and unusual settings in his works, ie: having a talking scarecrow as the murder victim in a mystery story (Audubon’s Prayer), or having two complete strangers raid the same bookstore just to find a dictionary (A Duck and Goose’s Coin Locker).

“Fish Story” centers around a member of a failed, one hit wonder, rock band from the 70’s, but this one hit goes on to play a critical part in the lives of various people, so much so that it ends up saving the world. Atsushi Ito who starred in “Battlefield Baseball” and “Boy’s Choirs” will star as the fallen rock star.

This will be the second adaptation of one of Isaka’s works this year, the other being Masaya Kakei’s supernatural drama “Sweet Rain: Accuracy of Death” starring Takeshi Kinashiro as death personified.

“Fish Story” is scheduled to hit Japanese theatres next year.
