It's been just over a year since word came out that director Kichitaro Negishi would be adapting the Osamu Dazai novel “Viyon no Tsuma (Villon’s Wife)” to the screen. Dazai, one of Japan's most famed authors, is also one of its most notorious - drinking profusely and attempting suicide a number of times. He finally succeeded in 1948 by drowning himself at the age of 39. Made to commemorate the centenary of Dazai's birth "Villon's Wife" is a thinly-veiled autobiographical story about the relationship between an abusive alcoholic writer and his wife. Last year we kn ew that Tadanobu Asano and Takako Matsu would be portraying the central couple, but now that the teaser trailer has been released we see that Negishi has really outdone himelf assembling the supporting cast. Ryoko Hirosue, Satoshi Tsumabuki, and Shin'ichi Tsutsumi are all on board to tell this classic story. Check out the teaser trailer for "Villon's Wife" below and then head over to Cinema Today to check out a gallery of brand new stills from the film.
