New Yorker's get even more Japanese cinema with Japan Cuts

While all of us Canadians were setting off fireworks and drinking a few beers at the cottage for Canada Day yesterday folks down in New York were getting their second blast of Japanese cinema this summer. Co-presented with the New York Asian Film Festival the Japan Society is bringing the Big Apple Japan Cuts, the festival of new Japanese Cinema until July 12th. It's a pretty diverse programme, from the goofiness of Keralino Sandorovich's "Crime and Punishment?!?!" (above) and Kwak Jae Yong's "Cyborg She" (a film I hated, but you can't please everyone) to Ryosuke Hashiguchi's sublime drama "All Around Us" and the international premiere of a film that I've been excited about for a while now, Gen Takahashi's gritty police drama "Confessions of a Dog".

On top of all that Japan Cuts is presenting a programme of the short films of the just plain fun short films of animator UrumaDelvi who has also done up the trailer for this year's Japan Cuts Fest.
